Embodiment Performances look to the biology of the body to find that all life is movement, from the minutia of cells to
the macro of bone, and our fluid body system is an innate choreographer. These artists explore transformational
movement experiences, where the body is a house of mystery, which can be accessed when we are present to the
originality of our own experience, viewing the body as an extension of a planetary process.

10    Annual   Somatic Movement Arts Festival
Embodiment Performances look to the biology of the body to find that all life is movement, from the minutia of cells to
the macro of bone, and our fluid body system is an innate choreographer. These artists explore transformational
movement experiences, where the body is a house of mystery, which can be accessed when we are present to the
originality of our own experience, viewing the body as an extension of a planetary process.

Somatic Artists explore sensory-motor refinement of their internal physical landscape, expressed in articulation, gesture,
and inner/outer awareness.  Can you imagine maintaining deep physical self-awareness while being attuned to your
environment, plus allowing the creative flux of the unexpected-unknown to present itself spontaneously? The creative
challenge for the Artists includes skill, aesthetics, in-the-moment presence, connection to other performers, audience
members, and the world at large!  The audience plays a participatory role with this visceral performance approach.

These Artists have rare body awareness, with roots in Continuum Movement and other somatic practices, each with
diverse expressions in the living experience of the body and revolutionary possibilities of Art. Neuroplasticity in
performance is explored in the spirit of fostering a more embodied, creative and compassionate world.

Lewis Segal wrote about SOMAfest Artists in the Los Angeles Times :
“Real body awareness… These performers are a breed apart…  Brilliant harnessing of the body”...
