In the class we will use contact improvisation to explore somatic communication. The focus will be on
integration of our senses to heighten our perception of ourselves and our partners. We will warm up
with sensory exploration and practice techniques for learning, and playing with, the unique qualities of a
partner -- moving beyond a static understanding of physiology to a holistic perception of kinetic,
energetic and emotional bodies. We will develop our awareness of what our contact communicates, and
practice listening skills to respond to what is being offered. Then we will use that as a guide to dance
in a playful dialog with our partner.

INTEGRATION of the SENSES: Sat, Oct 10, 12:30-3pm
TENSEGRITY: Thurs, Oct 8, 9-11:30am
in partnership with another body. Within the form of Contact Improvisation we will explore how this
architecture communicates different messages depending on your tissue organization. We'll start with
practicing a conscious shift of weight in solo, finding the simplicity and subtly of shifting weight through our
bodies. As we continue with sensing our partners limbs as an extension of our own, we will develop our
awareness of what our contact communicates, and practice listening skills to respond to what is being
offered, as we connect with our partner through the senses of touch, sight, sound, balance and rhythm.
