Good theatre is great therapy, great theatre is sacred. For those who practice the somatic arts
the merging of the performer as healer, shaman, wise person, sacred clown is held throughout the
practice. Participants will move individually, with a small ensemble and as a collective whole.
Beginning with a most simple weave developing through intimate, detailed investigation with
movement explorations that include yoga, contact, weight transfer, timing, kinesthetic response,
aesthetic awareness, evocative movement, eccentric movement, humorous movement.
Participants explore their bona fide, playful, authentic, real, true, fun selves.
*********
How do we balance the inner work with the outer work? Participants move individually, with
another and as a collective whole to explore their authentic selves.

BIOGRAPHY:
While working as an actor at the American Repertory Theatre at Harvard University, Rima began
to feel artistically stifled. Brought up with experimental theatre/contact and improvisational
dance just plain “American style” acting did not exude the evocative qualities of movement based
theatre. She started rehearsing a group of adventurous movers from 7am-9am six days a week
(the off hours) exploring authentic movement from the heart to the soul. So was founded the
Riolama Theatre/Dance Ensemble with the concept of ‘modern myths for modern times’ dedicated
to the exploration of archetype, ritual and story. A plethora of movement vocabulary integrated to
reveal the complexity of human nature. Implementing improvisational technique creation myths,
sacred texts, parables, dreams and music merged to develop a vibrant theatre. Rima took her art
westward to Santa Fe, NM where she continues to share, teach, direct, create and perform
powerful, innovative, and humorous movement based theatre.
